Since 2002, I have been working on all kinds of Free Software related projects, preferrably remote. Over the past years I have collaborated with various teams of international Open Source projects. My Open Source activities partially originate from customer requests, but I also contribute a lot to Open Source projects as a volunteer. On an individual basis, I am also available for on-site consulting (ideally for customers situated in Northern Germany, that is Schleswig-Holstein or Hamburg).

By profession, I originally am a biologist (Dipl.-Biol.). However, already as a student at university (CAU Kiel) I was offered the opportunity to gather a lot of experience in maintaining heterogeneous IT environments. At the same time I discovered a second passion of mine. I became deeply interested in different forms of body work. I received training in Shiatsu, Cranio Sacral Therapy, Osteopathy, as well as Aikido. Since 2013 our patchwork family has been living near the Schlei firth between Eckernförde and Schleswig, in Northern Germany. My central place of work is at the Technik- und Ökologiezentrum Eckernförde.

In Fall 2020, I have founded the Fre(i)e Software GmbH with the goal of lifting my Open Source consulting business activities to a larger scale.

With Fre(i)e Software GmbH , our current major projects are active contributions to Lomiri and Ubuntu Touch and the Voxit Civic Tech Platform. We also support schools that want to use Debian Edu / Skolelinux and offer Enterprise Support for customers who use Debian for their infrastructure.

Accepted Talks:

Debian Edu goes Lomiri - Tablets for Education in the Free World

This talk will provide you with a quick overview of what Debian Edu is and what its current development status is. And it will provide you with a similarly quick overview of what Lomiri is and also what its current status is.

The talk will then dive into a story about possibilities to replace commercial vendor-locked-in mainstream solutions for tablet usage in classrooms and offer an alternative approach based on Lomiri, the operating shell powering the Ubuntu Touch phone/tablet operating system and Debian / Debian Edu.

In one of our current projects at Fre(i)e Software GmbH we have been provided with sufficient budget to maintain Lomiri in Debian forky and integrate a tablet-oriented installation scheme into the Debian Edu installer.

In addition, as part of this funded project, we encourage developers to program new apps for Lomiri / Ubuntu Touch with educational use-cases in mind. In the course of this initiative, we plan to bring educational (and other) native Lomiri apps to Debian, as well, so we have them available for the Debian Edu Installer.
