On the finish line after many years of school or university? Nothing beats that moment to finally hold the graduation paper in your hands. Except maybe obtaining an additional digital version. But what can you do with it, how open is the ecosystem, and will it run on Debian and its derivatives? When you dive into that topic, you come across micro-credentials and badges and wallets and blockchains and signed documents and even more to know about, and you may be confused rather than in a position to keep everything under control.

Therefore, this talks sheds some light on the recent technology developments, brings everything into order, and gives practical insights from Swiss universities and other deployments. Due to the processing of personal data, the setup and operation of VMs along with the software services on top of them needs to be well planned, and the talk informs about these aspects. Moreover, the presentation singles out bottlenecks in terms of missing alternatives to non-free components, and explains contributions in terms of code and data.
